The McNinch Estate & Grounds
A LIVING HISTORY
The McNinch House was originally home to Frank Ramsay McNinch and his wife, Hulda Groome McNinch. Built nearly 100 years ago in what was then rural, open farmland on (unpaved) Sharon Lane just outside Charlotte, N. Carolina, McNinch House is a stately Colonial Revival-style home that is said to have been inspired in part by Mt. Vernon.
Frank McNinch was a lawyer by training and a captivating orator who became a celebrated mayor of Charlotte, then rose the political ranks in Washington, D.C. after supporting Herbert Hoover in the 1928 presidential election. Mr. McNinch was a staunch supporter of Prohibition; an early advocate for fresh air and exercise which led him to designate many parks, playgrounds and green spaces around Mecklenburg County; and he once made the cover of TIME Magazine.
